When officials know constituents are paying attention and taking the time to write or call, they’re more likely to think carefully about their positions and votes. Even if an official has a stance, strong constituent input (especially in large numbers) can sway decisions, delay harmful legislation, or push for new priorities.
Calling your elected representatives can be particularly effective because offices keep tallies of the number of calls they receive on each issue. A high volume of calls can make an official reconsider a stance.
