We are a collaborative, nonpartisan group committed to advancing equitable rights and just policies for all Americans. Through peaceful, principled, and nonviolent resistance, we confront policies and actions that threaten civil liberties, human rights, and democratic values. Our movement is rooted in compassion, powered by community, and driven by the vision of a more just and equitable society for everyone—regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ability, or economic status.
Sustained, non-violent protest is important because it has been historically proven to be one of the most effective tools for social and political change—especially in democratic societies. The political scientist Erica Chenoweth found through empirical research that nonviolent movements that actively engage at least 3.5% of the population almost always succeed.
From the Women's Suffrage Movement to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement to Eastern Europe's liberation from Soviet control, nonviolent movements haven proven successful over violent revolutions in creating social and political change.
